Experience Ramapo

There’s No Place Like It

Nobody takes care of children the way we do.

Our children matter most, and when it comes to our children, everything matters.  Ramapo prides itself on having the most amazing camp facility, programs, and staff for kids anywhere. Our attention to detail is unmatched, our experience with children extensive, and our passion for camp unrivaled. We care and it shows. We do and think of everything so you don’t have to. Our year-round commitment to making every summer better than the last is certainly evident. We have a clear vision of what camp should be and combine it with a lifetime of experience, a lot of passion, and endless enthusiasm. It continues with constant reinvestment in the facility, hard work, old-fashioned customer service, and a lot of people who really care. They say it takes a village – well, the Ramapo village is filled with some of the most amazingly talented, caring, passionate people your children will ever meet! Our year-round team maintains control of every major component of your child’s summer experience, ensuring every detail.

Our promise is that your camper will be surrounded by a positive environment with people who give their heart and soul, whose only mission is complete devotion to making sure that every Ramapo camper’s summer is an absolute success. In a world that has become more and more complex for kids both technologically and emotionally with increased stress at younger and younger ages, now more than ever is Ramapo so important in children’s lives. Ramapo gives your children a safe place to build life skills, gain confidence, make friends, learn social skills, problem solve, venture outside their comfort zones, try new things, emulate positive role models, and just be happy being a kid. And nowadays, that is more important than ever. Come meet our year-round team, visit our facility, explore our programs, and experience for yourself why everybody says “There’s no place like it.”

Our Story

A Dream Turned Reality

Our story starts over 50 years ago. Growing up, Mike spent his entire life in day camp, dreaming of the day that he would become a camp director. And even now, after all these years, it’s still hard for him to believe that his childhood dream has become reality. As a second-generation camp director, Mike watched and learned everything from his dad. He worked alongside him for 12 years after college, and after meeting his wife Michele at camp, Mike informed his dad that he was officially ready to take over. However, to Mike’s surprise, his dad politely informed him that he had no intention to retire any time soon (and he didn’t for another 23 years). Thus, our story unfolds as his dad’s decision not to retire ultimately began Mike’s quest to find a camp of his own.

In November of 1990, Mike and Michele risked everything they had to purchase Ramapo. When they first set foot on the Ramapo grounds, there was almost nothing there. All Mike had was a dream, lots of passion, unwavering support from Michele, and three friends who believed in him and would work by his side day and night. They arrived with one young daughter, Lindsey, and another one named Courtney came shortly thereafter. Lindsey and Courtney spent all of their summers at camp. They watched their parents build Ramapo from the ground up into the magnificent, one-of-a-kind place it is today. Lindsey and Courtney both love camp as whole heartedly as Mike and Michele do, and after college, they both chose to follow in their parents’ footsteps and work year-round as the third generation of Kulchin’s to be taking care of kids.

Over the years, we have cultivated the most incredible and talented group of year-round camp professionals. Our team is filled with more passion, enthusiasm, knowledge, and heart than you will ever find in one organization; a team of people who all share the common goal of creating the very best environment for kids to spend their summers. Ramapo provides a unique, exceptional experience, and it is the creation of this special environment for campers and staff alike that ultimately led to the tagline, “There’s no place like it.” (And there really is no place like it!)

Every summer, we feel fortunate that our efforts will be making a difference in the lives of our campers and their families. We are a perfect blend of passion and enthusiasm, experience and expertise, knowledge and dedication, and commitment to providing the best day camp experience anywhere. Camp has fulfilled our dreams, and we’d like it to help your child fulfill their dreams as well. And there’s no better place to start than at Ramapo.
